The Comic Strip

Arctic Circle is a daily cartoon strip about three penguins, Oscar, Ed and Gordo, who have emigrated from Antarctica to the Arctic. They join a small community that includes a polar bear, a lemming, a snow rabbit and an Arctic tern. The comic has an underlying environmental theme and regularly sees the humour in trying to live a more eco-friendly life in a 21st century world.

The strip was created in 1992, but didn't appear in newspapers until 2005, when it had a guest spot in the Australian Rural Press. Syndicate submissions followed and King Features signed Arctic Circle up in 2006. It was launched on 27th August 2007.

The Creator

Alex Hallatt got her first newspaper cartoonist position in 1999, working on a topical cartoon panel and then a strip for Brighton's daily paper, The Argus, in the UK. She emigrated to New Zealand in 2003 and Arctic Circle was syndicated by King Features in 2007. In 2008, Alex crossed the ditch to live in Elwood, Melbourne.
